The 2025 State of Pentesting Report has dropped its truth bomb: CISOs are still losing the war against the office printer. Despite millions invested in cybersecurity tactics, our top tech minds are thwarted by machines that jam more often than they secure sensitive data. According to the report, a staggering 74% of breaches could be prevented if someone could just make the printer work without a ritual sacrifice.
CISOs were surveyed about their strategies in handling security alerts and persistent breaches. Surprisingly, many confessed to forwarding all printer-related alerts straight to the trash, admitting, “If it’s between ignoring printer alerts or sleeping at night, I choose sleep.” Their strategy relies heavily on hoping hackers are too busy fighting their own printers to bother hacking.
The report paints a picture of progress and a shifting mindset. Instead of investing in expensive cybersecurity tools, some enterprises are betting on hiring exorcists to deal with tech possessions and launching the “IT Shame Campaign,” where non-cooperative devices are publicly roasted until compliant. It’s clear the cybersecurity industry’s future is as bright as a printer error light.
