In a galaxy not so far away, interstellar con artists have turned to Facebook to launch a cyber offensive that even Captain Kirk would find alarming. These cunning fraudsters are deploying Kling AI—no relation to the Klingon Language Institute or even anything remotely enjoyable—to lure unsuspecting internet travelers into a wormhole of malware mayhem.

The campaign, which could have been dreamt up by the Romulan Tal Shiar, sees the creation of counterfeit Facebook pages cleverly disguised as part of the Kling AI armada. Users clicking on these alluring sponsored ads are then teleported to fake websites. But instead of synthesizing cool space imagery or translating Shakespeare into Klingon, these sites push downloads of malware at warp speed.

Kuaishou Technology, the brains behind the real Kling AI, were too busy synthesizing images and videos from your cat’s text prompts to comment. Meanwhile, Facebook is on high alert, narrowing its eyes suspiciously at any ad that promises ‘AI-powered’ anything. As for the users caught in this cyber snare, they’re learning the hard way that not all who wander into space ads are lost—sometimes they’re just hosting RATs (Remote Access Trojans) instead.
