In a move that has left cybersecurity experts ironically applauding the creativity of their digital adversaries, China-linked hackers have found a way to turn virtual machines into unwitting attendants at a virtual heist.
Using a SonicWall VPN appliance, these cunning individuals cracked the code to what can only be described as the ultimate backstage pass to VMware ESXi. Apparently, exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities is the new ‘in’ thing for those who want to impress their hacker friends with tales of exploits.
Sources say these hackers might have been able to RSVP to this virtual escapade as far back as February 2024, proving once again that time is just an illusion when it comes to cybersecurity preparedness.
Much to the chagrin of ransomware enthusiasts everywhere, the vigilant folks at Huntress observed these activities and decided to stop the virtual party before it turned into a full-blown digital disaster. It’s almost as if Huntress doesn’t enjoy the occasional chaos cocktail.
