In a thrilling episode of who-can-crash-who, the Russian hacking group Sandworm decided to up the ante this holiday season. Armed with their latest tool, DynoWiper, they aimed to give the Polish power sector a blackout New Year’s Eve party. Unfortunately for them, it was lights on and party fail, as the attack fizzled out like a damp firecracker.
Sandworm’s ambitious plan was to offer Poland a unique New Year’s gift of complete darkness, sparking a wave of environmental appreciation as Poles would be forced to rely on candles and flashlights. But Milosz Motyka, Poland’s energy minister and aspiring cybersecurity influencer, gleefully reported that the attack was as effective as a PowerPoint presentation at a rock concert.
The cyberspace forces, presumably donning virtual capes, managed to thwart what was described as the ‘largest cyber attack’ of the year. Milosz later tweeted, ‘2025: Year of the Goat and Goats, the latter being the hackers who tried to mess with us.’
