In a twist that has pet owners everywhere side-eyeing their beloved companions, Detour Dog, who we all thought was man’s best friend, has been exposed as the mastermind behind an underground DNS-powered malware scheme. Proving that no kibble is ever free, Detour Dog has turned the friendly game of fetch into a data heist caper.
Infoblox, the real ‘Just Say No to DNS Crime’ squad, revealed that Detour has been operating domains that play a pivotal role in distributing the villain of this digital drama: the Strela Stealer. By day, Detour engaged in the wholesome activity of napping in the sun, but by night, the pooch ran a backdoor operation known as StarFish, leaving Alaskan Malamutes everywhere gasping in disbelief.
Tracked since August 2023, Detour Dog has been proving that while all roads might lead to his belly, a good digital detour leads to data breaches galore. This marks the first time a wholesome-looking canid has been likened to a cyber criminal, and the DNS community is pawsitively astounded by the news.
