In a move that has left cybersecurity experts and international relations specialists scratching their heads, a group of Chinese hackers known as UnsolicitedBooker have reportedly decided that merely hacking Earth-based targets is so last year. Instead, they’ve ambitiously set their sights on a more celestial prize: Mars. Clearly not content with just winning hearts (and data) on this planet, the group has apparently aimed their MarsSnake backdoor at Saudi Arabia as a stepping stone to more interplanetary endeavors.
According to ESET, the cybersecurity firm that uncovered this curious saga, the hackers’ infiltration was akin to a romantic comedy plot, replete with spear-phishing emails designed with all the subtlety of Romeo’s serenade, except with less poetry and more malicious intent. The unnamed international organization in Saudi Arabia, presumably too busy adjusting their telescopes to notice the cyber romance blossoming in their inbox, reportedly fell for MarsSnake’s charming advances.
Security analysts speculate that the names MarsSnake and UnsolicitedBooker were birthed in a brainstorming session after watching too many sci-fi flicks, possibly fueled by a caffeine overdose. As the world watches in suspense, one thing remains certain: if aliens exist, they are probably grateful that their binary DNA remains a mystery to these starry-eyed cyber crooks.
