In a shocking revelation that could only surprise people still using Netscape Navigator, Google recently reported a minor dip in zero-day exploits, now down to a mere 75 instances so far in 2024. Of course, this is nothing to worry about unless you use enterprise security products, which, as it turns out, are as secure as a screen door on a submarine.

Interestingly, 44% of these zero-day exploits were aimed at enterprise-level security products. Yes, you heard that right: the very products meant to secure corporations are frequently about as secure as a password written on a sticky note. It’s almost as if hackers decided to skip the main course and head straight for the dessert — if the dessert were made of pure, creamy irony.

If there’s a silver lining, it’s that zero-day exploitation of browsers and mobile devices has fallen drastically. Who knows? Maybe hackers just got sick of hearing Chrome and Safari are on different operating systems, or perhaps targeting mobile devices felt like picking on the smallest kid in class. Either way, don’t forget to update your antivirus software, which, according to these statistics, is basically like using a tissue paper shield in a water balloon fight.
