With nearly three dozen victims in Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, one wonders if ShadowSilk’s real aim was to win a Guinness World Record for ‘Most Governments Hacked Using Casual Messaging Apps’. If that isn’t enough to inspire confidence in global cybersecurity, I don’t know what is.

Group-IB, the intrepid cybersecurity firm, has been hot on their heels, presumably while shaking their heads in disbelief. “We share the same toolset and infrastructure as you,” ShadowSilk seemed to whisper, with the calm assurance of a hacker who knows that nobody will check their Telegram messages. “We just don’t do email.”
