In a move that is absolutely guaranteed to keep hackers awake at night, OpenAI has unleashed the mother of all security measures by banning accounts of hackers who used ChatGPT for nefarious deeds. After all, nothing says ‘deterrent’ quite like a stern click of the ‘ban’ button. Russian, Iranian, and Chinese hackers are reportedly shaken to their core, their digital dreams dashed by a single email notification.
These cyber-hoodlums had been using ChatGPT for unspeakable acts of mischief, like improving malware and automating meme creation, clearly a diabolical scheme to overload the internet with cat GIFs and poorly spelled conspiracy theories. OpenAI’s ban hammer came down hard, policy statements and all, showing these threat actors once and for all that AI-generated haikus are for constructive purposes only.
Ironically, the hackers were said to have initially trained on ChatGPT themselves. “It was like mentoring a delinquent digital offspring,” quipped one anonymous cybersecurity expert. But now, with their AI buddy account locked in time-out, they might just have to resort to old school hacking methods, like actually learning something.
